A Mexican Valentine’s Day
As Valentine’s Day approaches, people around the world will begin to celebrate with roses, chocolates, and candle-lit dinners. That is the “traditional” way to celebrate in Europe and the U.S. In Mexico, however, it is not St Valentines day - it is El Día del Amor y la Amistad, or “The Day of Love and Friendship.” and no-one is left out on this holiday, because it's not just for romantic lovers; it is also a day to celebrate close friendships !
Valentines evening MENU
a selection of mouthwatering dishes using a range of ingredients which have been banned at some time in the past (or should have been) due to their real or supposed aphrodisiac properties:
Tomatoes when first introduced were known as “love apples” and banned by the catholic church along with the avocado due to its suggestive growing habits (pendulously in pairs). Fresh seafood and caviar are well known for their aphrodisiac qualities
The Romans were very fond of a sexy little lettuce called arugula which we naughty Brits renamed “rocket” and asparagus spears are clearly rather rude.
Chile peppers increase the heart rate, plump the lips and release a rush of endorphins, whilst pineapple was used as a cure for impotence and passion fruit speaks for itself.
Chocolate was used by the Mayans both as a stimulant and as payment in brothels! - we all know that today chocolate is one of the sexiest foods around – made slightly rude by the addition of banana
cava blush cocktail
guacamole and totopos
tuna ceviche – raw tuna marinated in lime and bitter orange with ginger, coconut and chili
deep fried lobster croquettes, charred sweetcorn salsa
